This booklet explores the significance of scientific illustration and taxidermy in recording and preserving the memory of lost species. The Great Auk serves as my example as I briefly discuss how and why the bird went extinct alongside an illustrated interpretation of the species’ interal physiology to demonstrate how much we’ve learnt from preserved specimens.
